LA Green Corps sites offer green services to the community through service learning and fee for service projects. Corpsmembers draw from the expertise of trained staff while assessing community needs and implementing project designs. Quality control inspections are conducted on every project; partners are surveyed and LA Green Corps staff members oversee final project outcomes.

" I installed solar panels and I made a difference while overcoming my fear (of heights.)
I felt very good about helping my team and making a difference."
Constance W., 21 yrs old Jr. Crew Leader with the Alliance for Affordable Energy Fall 2008
- Energy Conservation:
Corpsmembers learn home weatherization, installation of various kinds of insulation including radiant barrier, energy efficiency assessments, and quality control. Weatherization can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of a home (and lower utility bills) by sealing all air leaks (plumbing penetrations, windows, base boards, under and around doors), replacing conventional lighting with CFL bulbs, insulating hot water heaters, and installing door sweeps.

- Deconstruction, Construction, Historic Preservation:
Corpsmembers deconstruct and skim hurricane damaged and blighted houses in the Greater New Orleans Area, diverting tons of building debris from landfills that demolition would produce. Through deconstruction (the taking apart of an existing structure), Corpsmembers learn basic construction concepts and historic preservation. They process salvaged building materials in an architectural salvage depot, and learn how to make sales and how the non-profit depot is run. Corpsmembers gain carpentry skills by doing restoration on architectural accents, mill work for clientele and creating new products from the recycled building materials such as planters, picture frames, gift boxes, and tables.

"Louisiana Green Corps is an extremely valuable community partner for the Office of Service Learning at Loyola University. Volunteering with the Corpsmembers has tremendous educational value for our students, increasing their awareness of environmental and educational issues, deepening their sense of social responsibility, and helping them understand how they can contribute throughout their lives."

"The Louisiana Green Corps is a perfect instrument because not only does it provide valuable workers, but offers job training to unemployed, under-employed, court involved or otherwise disadvantaged area youth, giving them an opportunity to succeed in life. Additionally, the program offers interesting and rewarding work to the carpenters, contractors, master gardeners, and others who serve as trainers and team leaders."
