Employing Youth with Intellectual Disabilities: The LA Green Corps views all youth as assets to the community. Including individuals with documented intellectual disabilities is a unique opportunity for our program to promote inclusion and mirror reality. Not only do youth with intellectual disabilities benefit from an integrated work experience through developing confidence and a sense of capability, but youth without disabilities learn tolerance, sensitivity, and how to work with a diverse group of coworkers. Inspiring and training inclusive crews in the emerging sustainable industries helps New Orleans create best practices for an inclusive workforce development in a green economy that can be highlighted across the nation.
